Once again this year, we will be holding a Sample & Outlet Sale featuring prototype samples that were never commercialized,
items with minor imperfections from the production process, and discontinued designs.
At MIZEN, we strive to minimize waste in our production, but some prototypes are inevitable in the creative process.
To make the most of these unique pieces, we are pleased to offer this special opportunity.

In response to many requests, we are pleased to introduce a limited-time Kimono Remake Service.
Your kimono (limited to tsumugi fabrics only) will be tailored into one of our two most popular MIZEN designs, specially arranged for remaking.
Give new life to a kimono that has been resting in your wardrobe and transform it into something you can wear again.
※ Only tsumugi fabrics are eligible for remaking.
※ Chirimen (soft fabrics) and other special kimono materials are not accepted.
※ Depending on the condition of the kimono, we may not be able to accept certain pieces.

An Edo-style braided cord runs through the waist, allowing for adjustable gathers and customizable volume.
Eyelets at the cord openings add a touch of casual charm.
The high, oversized stand collar, front zipper opening, and elastic tape inside the placket, combined with the volume of four full kimono panels,
create a silhouette that is both sporty and refined.

Please note that we may not be able to accept certain fabrics depending on their condition.
If you are unsure, we recommend bringing in the kimono itself for evaluation.
Remake services are limited to Tsumugi (pongee) fabric only.
We are unable to accept chirimen (crepe fabrics) or other special kimono materials.
※ Additional fees will apply for arai-hari (fabric washing), stain removal, or color correction,
if necessary.
※ The final decision on whether the fabric can be remade
can only be determined after the arai-hari process.

What is 洗い張り Arai-hari?
Arai-hari is a traditional Japanese fabric-washing technique in which the stitching of a kimono is undone, returning the fabric to its original tanmono (bolt) form, followed by washing to restore its cleanliness.
This process is commonly performed when re-tailoring kimono fabric.
By undergoing arai-hari, the fabric can be repurposed and transformed into a new creation while being sustainably reused.
This technique dates back to the Heian period, with historical records documenting its method, and has been carefully passed down through generations.
Although a time-honored practice, arai-hari continues to be preserved and utilized in modern times.
The new forms of fashion born through kimono remaking are not merely a trend
—they reflect a uniquely Japanese philosophy that respects tradition while continuously creating new value.
