We are pleased to announce that a pop-up event will be held at the Kimono Department on the 7th floor of Isetan Shinjuku Main Store from Saturday, September 7 to Sunday, September 8, 2025.

In January of this year, marking nine years since our encounter with Ushikubi Tsumugi at Première Vision Paris in February 2016, MIZEN opened a local store in Hakusan City, Ishikawa Prefecture—the birthplace of Ushikubi Tsumugi—called Ushikubi Tsumugi x MIZEN Hakusan Store .

By bringing together urban fashion and traditional Japanese textiles, we offer unique experiences that can only be found in regional settings.

This event recreates that world in Tokyo. Visitors can choose from a wide selection of fabrics directly from the weaving workshop and enjoy made-to-order garments tailored into either Western or traditional Japanese styles.

We warmly invite you to this rare opportunity to experience the charm of the production region in the heart of Tokyo.

This piece fuses two contrasting materials—stretchable knit and non-stretch kimono fabric—through the highest level of sewing craftsmanship known as linking.

By utilizing the standardized width of kimono fabric used nationwide, the cape is structurally universal and compatible with textiles from any production region. This innovative design was recognized with the 2024 Good Design Award.

Rather than placing emphasis on design alone, this cape was shaped to highlight the materials and techniques themselves, embodying MIZEN’s philosophy: “Craftsmanship takes center stage.”

Infusing hidden threads with the beauty of kasuri—
This special piece transforms the seams themselves into design elements by entrusting rare Japanese traditional dyeing techniques to the sewing threads, which are typically concealed in fashion.

Made from 100% cotton that gently touches the skin, the most universal of materials, its true value lies in the craftsmanship layered upon it.

MIZEN applies the rare kasuri dyeing technique to the fabric, elevating the normally hidden sewing threads into visible patterns that express a new kind of beauty.

Additionally, it incorporates the advanced “linking” technique from Kesennuma Motoyoshi Suits, with a knit-finished seam cover added to the inside of the neckline.

By using kasuri-dyed thread even for the reinforcement stitching, the circular seams subtly come to life as decorative accents.
Kasuri thread runs throughout the inner seams, allowing the shirt to reveal a bolder expression when turned inside out.
Though simple in appearance, this piece carries a story woven through its threads and craftsmanship.

MIZENは　目に映る美しさの奥に広がる産地の風土や歴史　職人の技術　そして生き様といった『余白』こそが我々の作品の本質的な価値であると考えています。
現代のファッションは　瞬間的で視覚的な刺激が重視されるがあまり過度なスピードが求められています。
その加速された消費の世界では本来時間をかけて丁寧に仕上げられるべき手仕事が評価の舞台にすら立つことができません。
伝統技術の衰退は我々一人ひとりが無自覚に求めている『欲望の速度』によって引き起こされているのです。
だからこそ私たちはそのスピードを緩めたときに見えてくる新鮮で豊かな世界を作品を通じて提示したいと考えています。
MIZENが目指す道は現代の流れに逆行する　静的で悠然とした美の在り方への挑戦かもしれません。
しかし日本にはかつて「余白を楽しむ」という価値観が確かに存在していましたそれはものの奥に潜む物語や気配を自ら感じ取り想像し心を満たす行為であり日本人が長い歴史の中で培ってきた美意識でもあります。
私たちは　現代の人々が忘れかけているこの感性を日本各地に点在する伝統技術とともに再び呼び覚まし世界へと届けていきたいと考えています。
そしてその余白に自ら気づき　埋めていく過程に喜びや幸せを感じられることこそが物質的経済的なラグジュアリーとは異なる精神的な新たなラグジュアリーの在り方だと信じています。
MIZENは「余白を楽しむプロジェクト」として日本の伝統技術を「ブランド」として昇華させるために職人たちの手仕事とその奥に眠る物語を洋服という形にのせ新たなラグジュアリーの可能性を問い続けていきます。
